The Clevergreen team were delighted to read that the world’s best fast bowler and South Africa’s favourite son, Dale Steyn, shares the same passion as we do. He is a strong advocate for water conservation, and hopefully his high profile can raise awareness on the current plight of South Africa’s natural water supplies.

If you share the same passion as Dale, do not hesitate to contact us, and we will happily share ideas with you about how you can save water in your home or business. Not only are their environmental benefits to save water, there are huge financial benefits too. Water prices in South Africa have risen dramatically over the past few years, and they are only going one way. Water problems: The Next Eskom? We think so.

Fiery Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn, a committed environmentalist, has signed up to become a water ambassador.

The speedster, nicknamed the Phalaborwa Express in honour of his place of birth, will be spreading the message about water scarcity and the need to protect this resource into the future for brewing giant SAB.

As the company’s water ambassador, the man currently topping the ICC Test bowling averages will use his high-level profile to encourage the public and sports enthusiasts to take water stewardship more seriously.

In a country officially ranked as water scarce and ranked among the world’s 30 driest countries, Steyn’s well-known face will add considerable impact to the brewer’s efforts to cut water consumption along its entire growing, supply and manufacture chain.

He will also take the save water message to political leaders, particularly at local government level.

“It is exciting for me to be involved with SAB’s sustainable development division. There is much I have to learn, but I am looking forward to it and to letting as many people as possible know how important water is to our future,” Steyn said.

His entry into the environmental field comes only days after the Johannesburg-based Golden Lions announced a partnership with the Endangered Wildlife Trust. The rugby team will assist the trust, in particular with its rhino conservation efforts.
